

Albert Alexander Jenkins, 83, of Shepherdstown, passed away June 29, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Born on July 24, 1930 in Blairton, WV, he was the son of the late John William Jenkins, Sr. and Virginia E. Green Jenkins.
He was a United States Army member and served his country during the Korean War.
Albert earned his certification from James Rumsey to become a welder and retired from Riverton Corp. He also worked at the VA Center in the dietary department, Rosedale Funeral Home, Brown Funeral Home, Melvin T. Strider Funeral Home, and Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home.
He was a trustee at Asbury United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown and Mt. Zion AME in Duffields and a Watch Care Member at Prosperity Baptist Church in Summit Point. Albert was a 40 year lifetime member of Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Dept. where he was First Lieutenant and he was also the first African American fire officer in Jefferson County, WV. He was also a masonic member of the Mt. Pisgah #3 Lodge in Martinsburg.
Albert is survived by his wife of 30 years, Mary Ann Carter Jenkins; Daughters: Alberta Alexandria Jenkins of Duluth, GA, Anny Deshawn Jenkins Brewer and husband Darren of Martinsburg, and Arthelia Schley Hopewell of New York. He was also a father to Raina Tate Flowers and husband Kevin of Duluth, GA, Bonita Brooks, Steve Holmes, Dennis Smith, and the late Ed “Tugger” Williams, all of Shepherdstown; siblings: Katherine Jackson of Blairton, Pansy L. and Rev. Robert L. Jackson, Sr. of Blairton, and Gary Jenkins of Ontario, CA.; and numerous other relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John William Jenkins, Jr. of East Orange, NJ and his sister Hazel Jenkins of Martinsburg.
The family wishes to thank JCCOA Sr. Center for their 5 years of devotion as well as Hospice of the Eastern Panhandle for their care.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 2nd from 6-9 pm with a time of sharing at 8pm at Rosedale Funeral Home and on Thursday July 3rd from 1pm until the time of the funeral service at 2pm at New Destiny Ministry Center, 437 Border Road, Kearneysville, WV, with Rev. Robert L. Jackson Sr. and Elder John Price officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant View Memory Gardens with Military and Fire Dept. Honors.
