Duane R. Peterson

Born October 17, 1925, in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Russell and Mary Peterson.

Duane met and married Ivalu Watkins Peterson on October 4, 1947, and enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2012.

Duane was a graduate of Shepherd College and earned his M.ED from the University of Georgia. He served as a sergeant in the US Army in occupied Italy during WWII. After working several jobs, including the US Postal Service, Fairchild, and School Teacher, Duane retired from the Internal Revenue Service after a successful 26 year career.

Duane is survived by his children: Cheryl Peterson, Pam McNamara (David), Michael Peterson (Doris), Debbie Dennis (Richard), Timothy Peterson, and Daniel Peterson (Vickie); grandchildren: Crystal, Rachel, Brian, Mikki, Katie, and Kelly; great-grandchildren: Tahj, Austin, Jayden, Jacob, Tony, Daejah, Caleb, Aubree, and Jeniah; brother, Guy Peterson; and sister, Geraldine Harrison. He is also survived by good friend, Bill Marion.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ivalu; a brother, Dale Peterson; and sisters: Eleanor Barrick and Delores Watkins.

Duane was a very spiritual man and loved his church at Shenandoah Bible Baptist Church.

Due to today’s virus situation, services and interment will be private. A celebration of life will follow at a future date.
