He was born on April 5, 1943, in Kincaid WV to William Kinder and Gustava Kincaid Kinder. He was the eldest of four children.
Gene moved to Berkeley County in the early Seventies and was proud of his civic achievements as well as his time as educator. He spent almost of all his professional career as guidance counselor, first with the Jefferson County Schools and then at Hedgesville High School, helping thousands of high school students over the years.
Shortly after his arrival to Berkeley County, Gene joined the Civitan Club of Martinsburg and remained an active member for the rest of his life. He held every club office during his time with the club, and several offices at the Chesapeake District level, and for many years helped coordinate Civitan’s involvement in Naturalization Ceremonies and drove students to the Harry Jacobs Sunday School. But he was most proud of his work with the Junior Civitans of the area, serving as the club’s Youth Advisor for many years and helping found junior clubs throughout the region.
Gene was preceded in death by his beloved spouse Patricia Ann “Patty” Massullo Kinder, and both of his parents. He is survived by his brother Stanley Kinder, his sisters Beverly Fields and Yvonne Brown, his two sons Eric Eugene Kinder and Raymond Harrill Kinder and Raymond’s wife Denise, two granddaughters Cassandra Ruth Kinder and Heather Patricia Kinder, one grandson Ethan Harrill Kinder, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members.
Private services will be conducted by Rosedale Funeral Home. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, an appropriate gesture to memorialize Gene would be a donation to a charity of your choice in his name. The Kinder Family Endowment Fund operated by the Civitan Club of Martinsburg P.O. Box 1402 Martinsburg WV 25402-1402 is specifically suggested.
