Faye Lorraine (Anderson) Kursey, 82, of Martinsburg, passed away on August 24 after an extended illness. At the time of her passing, Faye was a resident of Grenich Care Home and under the care of Hospice.
Faye was born July 17, 1941, to Richard Lester Anderson and Dora Frances (Brannon) Anderson. She retired from Berkeley County Schools as a teacher’s aide after twenty six years of faithful service.
Faye was married fifty-nine years to John M. Kursey, Jr., who preceded her in death on April 22, 2018. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jodi Braithwaite, brothers Ralph, Edgar, and Albert Anderson and sisters Phyllis Pittsnogle, Shirley Barron, Donna Jean Barron and Mary Lou Silveous. Left to cherish her memory are her son Michael (Margaret); grandchildren Elizabeth Suco (Tony), Brooks (Bethany), Skylar (Bobby) and Bryce Braithwaite; sister Frances Barrett, brother Harry Anderson, and many nieces and nephews.
Faye will forever be fondly remembered by family and friends alike as a loving, dedicated, and faithful person. She was the best mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor that anyone could ever be blessed with having. She always put others before herself, sacrificing her needs to make sure other people were taken care of.
Her grandchildren were the center of her life when they came along. Elizabeth, Brooks, Skylar, and Bryce had everything their hearts desired and more. Faye said, “Now that I got them, I am going to spoil them rotten.” That was Faye.
The family would like to extend our sincere love and appreciation to the staff at Grenich Care Home - Melissa, Tiffany, Cathy Largent, Kelley, Tammy, Cathy Hawkins, Bonnie, Anna, Jess, Wanda, and Kenzie - for their dedicated, loving, and faithful care and support for Faye, and for being there for the family through the difficult times. The family would also like to extend our love and gratitude for Hospice of the Panhandle for their loving and compassionate care for Faye – her nurse Stephen, social worker Candi, and Pastor Tony for his ministry. Also, we thank all other people who helped with Faye during her illness.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at Rosedale with visitation beginning at 1:00. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grenich Care Home or Hospice of the Panhandle.
