

Gilbert was born October 20 1956 to Freda (Knipe) Barney and Bruce Arlington Barney and raised on the family farm on Tabler Station Road in Inwood.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Linda (Mills) Barney, daughter Angela Lynn Titus and husband David of Bunker Hill, son Matthew Scott Barney of Providence, Rhode Island, brother Phillip Barney and Sister Bonita Beal. Gilbert also leaves his two grandchildren Dylan and Lexi Titus, family friends Derek and Tiffany King and Jason Evans, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and an Aunt Dorothy Knipe.
Gilbert spent his career at General Motors and was a proud United Autoworkers Union member. He also served in the Air National Guard of Martinsburg. Gilbert enjoyed the great outdoors and relished hunting trips with friends across the United States and Canada. He spent most of his free time tending to the family farm, his gardens and animals. He was a longtime member of the National Turkey Federation. Most importantly, Gilbert was a kind generous man who never met a stranger. He was of Christian faith. In his last days Gilbert received wonderful care by his wife, daughter, physician Dr.Shyama Rosenfeld and Hospice of the Panhandle.
Memorial Contributions can be made to Hospice of the Panhandle. Graveside services for Gilbert will be private.
