Praise be to God, John Mercer made arrangements with God to become an ancestor on Wednesday, August 19, 2015. He chose to share his final moments with the people around him whom he loved collectively and individually. John listened as each of his love ones expressed how very much they loved him. He took his final breaths and left this place to join his loved ones who had passed before him. His journey will be joyous and sweet, for he spoke with great conviction when he said, “Heaven is real, and I’ve seen it.” John’s work here on earth is done! He has no more pain, no more problems!
John enjoyed several hobbies during his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman! He was a true farmer who loved his cows. John was happiest driving his tractors out in his fields. Always quick to lending a helping hand, expecting nothing in return. John conducted his business much like he did his personal life. His word was his bond and a handshake sealed the deal!
John departed this Earth peacefully in his sleep at Hospice of the Panhandle in Kearneysville, WV. John is survived by his sons, John Jr (Helen) Mercer, Charles Town, WV; and Jeffrie (Joyce) Mercer, Ranson, WV; daughter Crystal (Deon) Butler, Scottsboro, AL; sisters, Betty (Robert) Stone, Frederick, MD; and Shirley (Donald) Springer, Frederick, MD; Grandchildren: Tammy, Angel, Shaun, Scott, Trishia, Tony Jr., Christopher, Stephanie, David, Jason, Jennifer, and Rebecca and 8 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Emma Staubs Mercer; wife, Lillie; son, Gerald (Lavonda) Mercer, Millville, WV; 6 brothers and 3 sisters, and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received at Rosedale Funeral Home on Saturday from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be made to help cover the final expenses.
