Born in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland, on October 13, 1941, Joseph Craig's journey spanned continents, touching lives with unwavering spirit. Prior to immigrating to the USA in 1965, he earned his nursing degree from Stobhill School of Nursing at Glasgow University. His quest for knowledge later led him to a Doctor of Ministry from Bethany seminary in Tennessee.
In Scotland, Joseph was a brother to nine other brothers and sisters and is now survived by Ken, Frances and Irene. He was married to his wife, Faith, in 1970. Their enduring bond witnessed the birth of two children, Billy and Faith Ann. As a father, his love extended from his children to his son-in-law, Troy Femi, and his daughter-in-law, Jill Craig, to his grandchildren—Kaylee, Tyler, Amber, Ian, and Tanner—who carry his legacy forward. His great-grandchildren, Rhett and Cohen Hutchinson and Nora Craig, became the jewels in his familial crown.
Joseph's life is a testament as a healer and servant. His legacy began as a dedicated registered nurse at Washington Hospital Center (1965-1968) and 10 years of supervision at Glendale Hospital. He went on to pastor five churches in MD, PA, and WV over his 40 year ministry career and he also preached in Scotland. In the embrace of Martinsburg, West Virginia, Joseph retired from his earthly occupation but not from the roles that truly defined him: preacher, teacher, devoted husband, loving father and pap, gardener, musician, political enthusiast and gospel seed thrower. Joseph also loved singing and playing his guitar. His passion for Christ inspired his son, Billy Craig, to follow in gospel service as a church planter and pastor.
Joseph's life journey didn't merely reflect in the dates and details; it was a symphony of experiences, a testament to service, love, and the pursuit of higher meaning. Today, we bid farewell to a man whose life was a melody, and whose memory will forever resonate in the hearts he touched. Until Christ returns, Joseph Craig, until Christ returns.
This Celebration of Life will be held at Rosedale Funeral Home on Sunday, November 26, at 3pm with a viewing at 2pm. In leu of flowers, donations can be made to The Church at Martinsburg, Hospice of the Panhandle, or Samaritan’s Purse.
