He was born on May 23, 1935, to the late David Thomas Lesher and Emma Virginia Bennett Malott; the youngest son of their 17 children.
After attending Williamsport High School, Phil enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served four years at sea, docking at ports around the world such as Spain, Italy, France, Turkey, and Greece. His time spent in service to his country taught him discipline and instilled in him a strong work ethic.
After serving in the Navy, Phil gained experience building engines for Mack Truck and working in the meat department at Grand Union Supermarket. He later partnered with his brothers to establish Sanitary Disposal of Williamsport, a business he owned and operated for 22 years before retiring upon its sale.
On October 20, 1956, Phil married the love of his life, Mary Catherine Stilwell, beginning a beautiful journey of 64 joyous years together. Deeply committed to their dream of a close-knit family, they raised three wonderful sons with unwavering love and devotion. As their family grew, Phil and Mary’s influence only deepened; they became a cornerstone in the lives of their grandchildren, offering the same steady presence and affection that defined their own home.
A devoted follower of Jesus, Phil attended Independent Bible Church and became a member in 1972. His Bible was well-worn, its pages a testament to a lifetime of seeking wisdom and finding comfort in the Word.
Phil is survived by two loving sons: Rodney Malott (Roya Kim) and Eric Malott (Kim Lavonne); two beloved grandchildren: Ashley Malott (Keiko) and Carly Malott (Bennet); three special great grandchildren: Judah, Adah, and Ezra; and two doting sisters: Norma Rae Cian and Wilma Jean Startzman.
In addition to his parents, Phil was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Mary Malott; dearly missed son, Jeffrey Malott; sisters: Darceous, Dorine, Virginia, Berdenia, Fairy, Shirley Mae, Barbara and brothers: James, John, Ardel, Ellic, Robert, William, and Franklin.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from countless family and friends.
On Wednesday, April 29, we will gather at Independent Bible Church for a viewing from 12pm-1pm, followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastors Mark Johnson, Curtis Lowry, and Phillip Macdonald. After the service, guests are invited to join the family at Rosedale Cemetery for the interment. We will then return to the church for a fellowship meal.
