

Raymond Earl Long passed away on February 12, 2024. Raymond was born to Earl and Edna Long on August 20, 1938 in Martinsburg, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Genevieve, and his brothers Homer, Clarence, and James. He is survived by his wife Bobbie Long, daughters Gina Zehrung (David) and Lara Gifford (Chris), as well as grandsons Landis, Levi, and Logan (Phoebe) Zehrung, Peyton (Kelly) and Palmer Gifford, and granddaughter Parke Gifford; as well as stepdaughters Tonya Kolb (Mike), Tracey Quick (Bryan), and Kimberly Moss and their families. Raymond was expecting his first great grandchild in April.
Ray loved the outdoors. He was a hunter, fisherman, competitive shooter, electrician, handyman, Hunter Safety instructor, and member of the Izaak Walton League. All of his children and grandchildren treasure the memories of fishing and spending time outdoors with him. Raymond loved music and had a rich bass voice. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and small groups and was a member of a Barbershop Quartet.
As a young man just out of high school, he joined the Army serving as Military Police. He then served in the Active Army Reserve with the 351st Ordnance Company of Martinsburg while also working as a lineman for Potomac Edison. He later enlisted in the USAF and WV Air National Guard full time, retiring in 1998. After retirement Raymond worked security for NCTC and the ATF.
Raymond was active in church from childhood until he could no longer attend due to declining health. He was most often involved in music and teaching Sunday school as well as any electrical work or odd jobs he could help with. Most of all he loved his Savior Jesus and his family.
