

Darnell Perry, the middle child of James Clarence Perry and Lucille (Montgomery) Perry, was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Perry was a serious musician who spent his earlier years singing and playing for gospel choirs over the state of Michigan. He began playing at an early age of 13 and often bragged that he self-taught himself to play the piano, organ and guitar as a teen growing up in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Perry was an avid lover of music and spent his down time pursuing his passion as often as opportunities prevailed to entertain others.
On November 6, 1981, he married Naomi Perry. They raised three boys Brian, Spencer, and Marcus. Marcus proceeded his father in death in July 2009.
Mr. Perry moved to Seattle, Washington in August of 1983 and shortly thereafter he started his career in the Seattle Emergency Services Department at Seattle Center and rose to the level of Corporal Darnell Perry prior to his retirement in 2017 as a Seattle Center, City of Seattle Employee after 26 years and 7 months of service as a dedicated and professional service member of the city and the community. Mr. Perry loved his job as a public servant and seldom missed a day of work, His passion was interacting with Seattle Center visitors and colleagues and finding ways to run a smooth shift and solve-problems.
Mr. Perry is proceeded in death by his parents, James Clarence and Lucille Perry, his brother, James Clarence Jr and his son, Marcus Woods Perry. He leaves behind a wife of 44 years, Naomi Perry, his sons Brian and Spencer, his brother, Willie Lee Perry, his sister-in-law Claire (James Clarence Perry Jr) Heldrich., 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He has a host of cousins, Walter Lee Isaac (Dianna), Margaret Isaac, Alma Jean Isaac Cleveland, Jessie Clanton Compton, Eddie Clanton Compton, and Maurice Compton to mourn his passing. Mr. Perry spent his last months in hospice and passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning of February 21, 2026.
