Earl Cecil Becker Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on January 4, 2024 after 97 years of life. He was born February 28, 1927 in Evergreen Township, Minnesota to William and Emma Becker.
He was drafted by the U.S. Army during World War II. Though he originally started as an engineer, he would eventually join the infantry “after seeing how the 1st Division was living”. His military service was extended in 1950 when the U.S. entered the war with North Korea. There he served with the 2nd Infantry Division and would be awarded two Purple Hearts and the Combat Infantryman Badge. After the end of the war, he continued serving with various units in a number of locations. He returned to Germany to complete his Army career by serving in the Berlin Brigade. He retired from military service in 1965 with the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC).
While stationed at Fort Ord, California, he met Marion Dawn Harper, whom he would marry on April 11, 1961. Earl and Marion moved to Marysville, Washington in 1965 where they raised their five children: Earl Jr., Shawn, Corey, Russell, and Dana.
Following his time in the military, Earl worked for the Weyerhaeuser Company until it closed. In his freetime, he built and raced supermodified race cars at tracks throughout Washington and British Columbia. He also raced in California and Colorado while stationed there with the Army. Earl was fond of watching his sons race at Sky Valley Speedway in Monroe and Skagit Speedway in Alger. He also enjoyed gardening, caring for the birds and squirrels in his backyard, and traveling the country with Marion in their RV.
Earl was overjoyed and proud to be a grandfather and great grandfather and the kids lovingly called him Pop-o.
Earl is survived by his children Shawn Becker, Corey (Jutta) Becker, Russell Becker, Dana (John) Snell; grandchildren Shanda (Josh) Zimmerman, Nolan Zimmerman, Amanda (Quinten) Baldwin, Elise (Cory) Davis; brothers Dwayne and Theodore Becker; great-grandchildren Luke Baldwin, Emma Baldwin, and Theodore Davis, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Marion, parents William and Emma, son Earl Jr., daughter-in-law Rusty Becker, and great-granddaughter Parker Baldwin.
A service will be held at 12:30 PM Friday, January 24, at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home in Marysville. A private burial service will follow at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
The family wishes to thank the nurses at Bristol Hospice and the staff at Fields Senior Living for the kindness and care they provided to Earl in his final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
