

Gary Bernard Swinehart, 67, passed away June 23, 2013 in Camano Island, WA. He was born to Willard and Maxine Swinehart January 29, 1946 in Akron, OH. He served in the U.S. Army on active duty from 1964 to 1967 and in the reserves until 1970 achieving the rank of SP5. He received the Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Combat Infantryman’s Medal. After the service he worked as a mechanic for Greyhound Bus Co. and finally in maintenance department for the Edmonds School District. Gary enjoyed camping, fishing, and going out dancing. His pets were also very important to him, Jake, his golden retriever, Tia, his feisty cat and Sneakers, his pomeranian. Under Gary’s rough exterior was a very sentimental, gentle and loving man. He liked his own jokes and could laugh at himself. Preceding him in death was his sister Linda. Surviving Gary is his loving wife of 8 years, Arlene; children, Tylar Swinehart of Kent, WA, Tammy Sanderson of Kirkland, WA; brothers, Mike (Julie) Swinehart of Kingston, WA, Tom Swinehart of Shoreline, WA, 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 1 niece and 3 nephews. A viewing will be held Friday, July 5, 2013, 1-5 p.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, 804 State Ave., Marysville, WA 98270. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home.
