Jim served in the US Navy from August 1944 until December 1964. He was in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa in a gun crew on the USS Birmingham, a light cruiser. He served the rest of his navy career in food service on various ships and shore stations.
He worked for Safeway Stores as a meat cutter and meat market manager for 20 years, retiring in 1984. He was a cook at the Everett Senior Center for 22 years.
Jim leaves his wife, Susan; daughter Rebecca Long;, son William Brewster Rowell; siblings, Olivia Oglesby, William Rowell, George Metz, Ross Herrington, and Bess Buckwalter; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
There will be no services at Jim's request. Donations may be made to Snohomish County Senior Services.
