John Page Dickson went to be with his LORD and Savior peacefully on June 27, 2016 at the age of 97. Born April 1, 1919 in Waukon Iowa, the family moved to a farm in Washington State in 1936. After finishing High School, John joined the C. C. C. (Civil Conservation Corp). There he learned to be a cook and served for 2 years. John then worked as lead diet cook at Fort Lawton Hospital in Seattle until he was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He enjoyed serving as Chaplain Assistant until he was honorably discharged at the end of the war. After military service he graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible in 1949, and Western Washington College of Education in 1953. John married the love of his life, Betty Dahlgren June 5, 1954 and they enjoyed 62 years of married life together and a wonderful family. John was an educator and especially enjoyed working at Liberty Christian School as a teacher, principal and longtime board member. He was a strong supporter of Christian Education. He had many hobbies but loved gardening, especially flowers, carrying on the tradition of his parents who raised Iris. Other loves included music, genealogy, cooking, canning, and sharing time with family and friends over a cup of coffee with plenty of cookies. Having family around him was a highlight of John’s life especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always took time to listen, laugh and participate fully in their lives. He loved serving the LORD by singing, playing piano and organ at church and being faithful to all church services, activities and Bible studies. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church from 1962-1987, and Grace Baptist Church from 1987-2016. John is lovingly remembered by his wife, Betty, of 62 years, and daughters Janet (Don) Hehe, Beth (Randy) Hlad. Six grandchildren: Jeff and Josh Hehe, and Misty (John) Tyrrell, Elisa (Donnie) Agler, Ben and Tyler (Angela) Hlad. Five great-grandchildren: Ian, Evan, and Owen Tyrrell, Micah and Emma Agler. John is reunited in Heaven with his parents, brothers Bob, and Paul and sister Janet and treasured grand-daughter Jenessa Hlad. He also leaves behind many loved cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Providence Hospice caregivers, David and Lori, who cared lovingly for John.
