

She was a widow of Jose Duarte, they shared their lives together for 42 years.
Maria was born in Robstown, Texas on December 30th, 1931 and was the daughter of Jose Basan and Josefina Perez.
She was a very spiritual person of many denominations – Jehovah, Catholic, Mormon and Baptist.
Maria enjoyed spending time hanging at the casino, going to the beach and taking family vacations, but most of all she just enjoyed being around her grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and all family members.
She is survived by her sons Rudy Zapata, Angelo Duarte (Kim), and her daughters Maria Consuelo (Michael) and Rosa Taylor (Troy), 13 grandchildren, Jose, Corina Kristina, Jessie, Brandon, Samantha, Travis, AJ, Inrique, Anthony, Reyman, Nathaniel, Marisa, and 11 great-grandchildren. Her brothers; John (Jean), Margo (Tencha), Ponciano (Sherry), Chone (Janice), Jowe (Lupe), and her sister Connie, who she shared a special bond only 2 sisters will share.
Maria was predeceased by her mother Josefina and her father who raised her, Rito Guzman, husband Jose Q. Duarte, son Jose M. Duarte, and grandson David Kroll.
Maria will be remembered as the kindest, most forgiving strong spirited, open hearted, loving mother of 5 children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Her name is Maria Minerva Duarte, but everyone who knew and loved her called her Aunt Mary or Grandma.
