Our LORD called our beloved son Richard Caldwell Porter during his sleep May 1st, 2015, having 37 years loving life, family and friends in his journey to eternal life in Heaven. He is joining his cousins in Heaven, baby Patricia, Gary Jr., Robert Minns and cousin Flavo Batista. Rich joined his grandparents Emila and Mariano Costs, Eleanor Caldwell Porter, Harry W. Porter, and loved all his Aunts and Uncles.
Rich loved life to the fullest with his compassion and loving care of his family and friends when they were facing cancers and surgeries, and helping with their recovery.
Sports were a great passion for an active boy. He loved playing soccer, baseball, fishing with his dad and friends, Junior State bowling teams, and individual championships in his teens. From the age of 10, Golf grew to be his passion. In his twenties he became a PGA Professional Golf Teaching Instructor working in the Southeast for Elite Golf Cruises. He was a leader in Golf sales and instruction, so he taught the incoming golf instructors how to do their best on all Carnival Cruise Line ships in The Caribbean and U.S. ports of call.
His love of animals since birth, his family Vizsla breed dogs showed him the healing power of a dog in a personal recovery of trauma and illness with a trained medical therapy animal. He went back to college two years ago and achieved certification nationally at the Animal Behavior College, “Where Dog Lovers Become Dog Trainers.” His plan was to start a Non-Profit business in training shelter dogs to help in the lives of our wounded American Veterans and their families.
Rich said many times he loved to “see us HAPPY, not angry with ourselves or each other!” His last reading joy was for all of us to read “The Happiness Code” by Dominique Bertolucci, a Hardie Grant Books – ISBN 978-174270248-3.
He wanted us to give our time and talents to a charity or Non-Profit helping animals and Veterans ie: “Paws and Stripes”, www.pawsandstripes.org.
Our family wants to thank you - all the persons in Rich’s life that guided and shared in his growth to become a fine and loving man who loved his LORD!
Please wear your favorite golf shirt to the service as Rich would have preferred.
