

Alma Catherine Owens, 91, of Ripley, Ohio died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. She was the widow of Herschel Owens. Mrs. Owens was a retired school teacher with the Ripley Elementary School. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Maysville and attended the First Presbyterian Church in Ripley, a Martha Holding Jennings Scholar, a member of the Brown County Retired Teachers, participated in the Presbyterian Guild in Ripley, a past member of the Ripley Theater Guild, past member of the Ripley PTA, a former member of the Ripley Women’s Club and was voted Outstanding Citizen of Ripley in 1997. She was born in Montgomery County, Kentucky on November 17, 1924 the daughter of the late Claude Gilvin and Elizabeth Trimble Gilven Kennedy. Survivors include her cousin’s, Sue Rosser (James) of Dover, KY, Geraldine Cooper of Aberdeen, OH and her sister-in-law, Dr. Sue McGhee Gilven of Brandenburg, KY as well as a host of “adopted” family and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alie Franklin “Bud” Gilven. Funeral services for Alma Catherine Owens will be held at the Knox and Brothers Funeral Home at 12:00 PM Saturday, March 12, 2016 with Rev. Wayne Reveal officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Memorials may be made the Brown County Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund.
