Andrew Dallas Rodgers of Stockbridge, Georgia experienced some incredible adventures in the course of his 96 year life. On Saturday, October 9, 2021, Andrew was reunited in Heaven with his parents Alvie and Lucerne Rodgers and siblings Lillian Anderson, Virginia Dunahoo, Johnny Rodgers, Euchee Rodgers, Jimmy Rodgers, Helen McClendon and Harriett Boggess. Also at the gate to greet him was his daughters-in-law Margaret Rodgers and Ann Stripling and sons-in-law Carl Murray and Greg Dove.
Andrew was part of America's Greatest Generation and earned a Purple Heart when his naval vessel was attacked during World War II. After the war he would come home to begin his family and career.
A large part of his work in the construction industry involved moving large pieces of equipment, whether it was model change-overs for General Motors or installing steel in the construction of Fulton County Stadium. Perhaps his favorite job was in retrieving, delivering and lifting Rich's Great Tree and giving Atlanta its Christmas Tree each year.
It was during this time that Andrew began his membership in the Masonic Lodge that would last more than 67 years. As a Mason he earned many honors and held multiple positions including past Worshipful Master (3 times) of the Lakewood Lodge. Andrew's love of God, country, people, and his dedication and work ethic set an example that lives on through his sons Andrew Dallas Rodgers Jr. and wife Linda, Alvie Rodgers Sr., his daughter Sherry Dove, 28 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren as well as his brother Bruce Rodgers.
Andrew's family will receive friends on Wednesday October 13, 2021 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, Ga. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday October 14, 2021 in the Masonic Garden of Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park, Ga.
