Billie Sue Martin Duncan, 88, of Locust Grove, Georgia passed away on April 28, 2024 in New Bern, North Carolina. She was born on November 14, 1935 to Arbania and Ulys Martin in Lake City (now Rocky Top) Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Lee Duncan, grandson Brian Clayton Ray, brother, George Edward Martin, sisters, Charlene Harmon and Emma Jean Elliott. Survivors include a brother, Thomas Martin (Guyneth) of Andersonville, TN, and sister Ruby Bradshaw (Lynn) of Lowell, Indiana. She leaves behind her children, Theresa Duncan Williams of Fayetteville, GA, Gregory Allen Duncan of Kennebunkport, ME, Timothy Scott Duncan (Kendle) of New Bern, NC; grandchildren: Erica Ray Osborn (Russell), Jeremiah Duncan, Joshua Duncan, Ian Duncan, Isabella Duncan, Tabetha Duncan, Timothy Duncan, Jr., (Kayla), great-grandchildren: Julia Elizabeth Ray and Elyssa Faye Osborn and many loving extended family members in Lake City, Tennessee. Billie was a faithful member of Peachtree Baptist Church in Senoia, Georgia for over 40 years. She loved her church family dearly. The fellowship of countless friends throughout the years, and being in service to the church is what made her the happiest. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit and outpouring of kindness to all who knew her. She could always be counted on to make a fantastic dessert at every family gathering and church event. Her love for family could always be found through one of her famous homemade cakes! Billie will also be remembered by her spunky character and willingness to “dish it back” to all who would banter along. Her personality remained playful throughout all her life, and she would always give an unhesitatingly honest opinion to anyone and everyone of whatever she found interesting or distasteful on that particular day. She loved McDonald’s cheeseburgers, french fries, and coffee to the end of her life. She would often speak of great memories of her first date with Otis, and double dates with their friends where they would share “a big ole bag” of them. She forever associated it with a new love that endured until her final days. Overwhelmingly so, she enjoyed the simpler things of life; whether it was listening to Elvis on her stereo for hours or window shopping at the local outlet mall looking back and saying, “Come on, Dewey” because her little legs outpaced her giant husband’s slow steps. For the last few years of her life, Sissy, her sweet babydoll would become her most treasured friend and brought tremendous joy to her life. It was obvious to everyone that Billie loved her, and she demanded that kindness and care be shown to her. If not, you would definitely hear about it. Sissy provided the comfort that she needed during very difficult and trying times. They were a team; you always knew that wherever Billie was then Sissy would always be close by. Billie Sue lived with a truly Appalachian attitude until her final days on earth. She would fondly reminisce about her childhood on her grand-mothers farm in Tennessee helping in the garden, doing chores, and simply enjoying a carefree – simpler time. I’m confident that she is enjoying that once again. She lived life on her own terms and she will be remembered by all for it.
