Byron Patterson, age 88, of McDonough, Georgia passed away July 20, 2023. He was born July 16, 1935 in Hampton, Georgia to the late John Wesley and Lizzie Mae Coker Patterson. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Anthony Patterson; siblings; Jesse (Pat) Patterson, Etta Brooks, Mildred Edge, Dot Morris,
Mable Rawls, John Patterson and Edward Patterson and by his four legged side kick of 18 years, Peanut. Byron was a graduate of the last class of McDonough High School in 1953. He retired after 31 years with Central Truck Lines and then drove for ABF for a short time before working as a funeral assistant for Rainer-Carmichael, Cannon-Cleveland and then Haisten Funeral Home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonough, the Teamsters Union #728 and The Royal Order of the Moose since 1971. Byron was known by many monikers, depending on the relationship he had with you - B, Uncle B, Pops, Pappy and Pat. He was an avid golfer and loved playing and coaching men and women's softball for many years and enjoyed watching his beloved Georgia Bulldawgs. Another thing Byron was known for was the love of his black 1974 Ford F100 that he received many an offer for over the years and still sits in his driveway today. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy Moore Patterson; daughter and son in law, Paula and Brannon Underwood of Moultrie, GA; grandsons, Dillon Underwood and Tiffany Little of Lake Park, GA and Ridge and Christine Underwood of Decatur, GA; great grandsons, Knox and Jace; brothers, Travis Patterson and Joe and Jane Patterson all of McDonough, GA; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 23, 2023 - 3:00 pm in the Haisten Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Friends may visit the family Saturday from 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the funeral home.
