Doris Geraldine Heaton

Doris Lewis Heaton, 97, passed away in Greensboro, NC on Sunday, January 4, 2026. She was born in Atlanta, GA and raised by her mother Annie Laury Braselton with her three sisters: Julia, Ruth and Betty. While in high school Doris worked at Woolworth’s on Peachtree Street and she graduated from Commercial High School.

Doris was married to Charles Lewis December 10, 1946 until his death March of 1997. Together they had three sons: Larry, Mark and Jeff.

They loved to travel with friends and later had a mobile home on Jekyll Island where they vacationed. While married to Charles she worked as Secretary for Ash Street Baptist Church in Forest Park and later at State Farm Insurance for 28 years. After Charles’ death she married Joel Heaton in January of 1999. They also loved to travel. They moved to McDonough in 2000.

Doris loved to sew, read, garden, cook, and was devoted to her family and church.

Doris is predeceased by her mother, three sisters, her husbands, Charles and Joel, her three sons, Larry, Mark and Jeff as well as a great granddaughter, Bailey Morton. Those left to cherish her memories are her three daughters in law, Barbara, Bonita and Susan, six grandchildren: Sharon, Scott, Andy, Tony, Jonathan and Lauren, seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, GA. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro, GA.
