Grace Marie Carter

Marie Carter, age 88, passed away on November 24th, 2025. She was born on October 23, 1937, in Atlanta, GA to the late Robert and Velma Hodgson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers; Raymond Hodgson, Bobby Hodgson, David Hodgson; her sister Betty Jo Martin, and her grandson Cameron Carter.

Marie was survived by her children Sheila (Charles) Bailey and Michael (Sherri) Carter; grandchildren Brandey Bailey, Blake Carter, and Megan Carter; sister Marion (Carl) Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie celebrated a career as a directory assistance operator with Southern Bell. She retired after 35+ years of service and was active in Communication Workers of America. Finding opportunity to continue being an active and vital member of her community she served with the Henry County Board of Elections and Registration as a volunteer poll official. She was a faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, part of the Awana ministry to young children as well as enjoying the ministry and activities of the Golden Hearts seniors. Her most favorite time was the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren. Never missing an opportunity to be involved with them.

A visitation will be held at Haisten Funerals & Cremations, located at 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, Georgia, 30253, on November 28th, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Haisten chapel at 1:00 pm. The committal service will take place thereafter at Sherwood Memorial Park, 6841 Tara Blvd, Jonesboro, GA 30236.
