

Jackie W. (Jack) Hurst age 79 of McDonough, GA passed away November 25, 2014. Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was cherished by his family and will be greatly missed. Jack was a proud Air Force veteran and the epitome of a fine Christian man. He retired from AT&T Long Lines after 30 years of service. Becoming one of the youngest engineers at AT&T, Jack helped design the communications systems at Camp David. He was active as a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Jack was an avid UGA fan and sports enthusiast, especially when it came to his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joel Lee Hurst and Thomas Cordell Hurst; nephew, Thomas Cordell Hurst, Jr. and grandson, Jason Ryan Whorton. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Janie Nix Hurst of McDonough; sons and daughters in law, Kenneth and Christine Hurst of McDonough; Kevin and Theresa Hurst of Buford, David and Marife Hurst of St. Petersburg, FL; daughter, Karen Hurst of Covington; grandchildren, Jessica and Tom Leggett, Lorie and Bryan Delk, Katheryn Hurst and Joseph Hurst; great grandchildren, Jackson Tomlin, Payton Tomlin, Kensley Delk, Jacob Whorton and Levi Delk; sister, Carolyn Jackson of Memphis, TN. A memorial service for Jack will be held Friday, November 28 at 2:00 PM in the chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
