James J.W. William Benefield

Mr. James William “J.W.” Benefield, age 93 of Murfreesboro, TN passed away June 18, 2015. He was born in Jackson County, AL to the late Marvin and Lillie Mae Davis Benefield. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Margia Adalen Coats Benefield and by four brothers and two sisters. J.W. faithfully served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Murfreesboro and formerly Salem Baptist Church in McDonough and was an ordained deacon. He was a member of the VFW, Evening Star Lodge # 70 of Florence and helped organize the Florence, Mississippi Volunteer Fire Department. After retiring from Siemens, he enjoyed gardening, carpentry, bird watching, building bird houses and being a handyman. Survivors include his children, Patricia A. (Paul) Rogers of McDonough, GA, Linda B. (Aldean) Valentine of Murfreesboro, TN, Keith W. (Renee) Benefield of Killen, AL; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 1:00 pm from the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Statham will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Forest Park, GA. Friends may visit the family Tuesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to Salem Baptist Church or the Gideons in memory of Mr. Benefield.
