Mr. Joseph Henry Johnson, age 80, of McDonough, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 19th, 2025. Joseph, better known as “Joe”, “Daddy”, and “Paw Paw” to those who knew and loved him dearly, was born on March 14th, 1945, to the late Henry Edward Johnson and Rosa Lee Johnson in Griffin, Georgia. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers (Ricky Johnson and Steve Johnson), grandparents, and great-grandparents.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia Johnson, of 57 wonderful years and their three children: Joseph Edward Johnson (Cecilia), Charles Curtis Johnson (Jessica), and Melanie Ann Callaway (Todd). Joe leaves behind an incredible legacy including nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Taylor Wilder (Emily), Caitley Huntley (Brent), Haley Phillips (Nathan), Megan Johnson, Cambrey Johnson, Vince Johnson, Lanie Callaway, Caiden Johnson, Peyton Callaway, Laiken Buice, Jaxon Buice, Zoey Huntley, and Celeste Huntley. In addition, Joe is survived by his brother, John Wilson Johnson, and several other family members.
Although Joe retired over 20 years ago from the phone company as a cable repairman, he was far from retired. Joe enjoyed helping others by mowing yards and fixing whatever problem you brought his way up until the day he passed away. Joe was a master of all trades and if he didn’t know how to fix something, by golly, he’d figure it out one way or another. Joe’s hobbies included restoring classic cars, fishing, hunting, gardening, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, and spending time with his family. Persistent, determined, hardworking, honest, intelligent, loving and maybe even a little stubborn are just a few words that his family would use to describe him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025, at Haisten Funeral and Cremation in McDonough, Georgia from 12:00 PM-2:00 PM. A private graveside ceremony will follow afterwards for the immediate family.
