

Leon Richard Blackburn, Sr., aged 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 16, 2024. He was born on March 14, 1940, to the late Oscar Ray Blackburn and Zelma Clark Blackburn.
Leon's remarkable journey through life is a testament to his enduring spirit and commitment to his family and community. Leon is survived and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 60 years, Linda Bernhard Blackburn, and their two sons, Leon Richard Blackburn, Jr. (Sandra Price Blackburn) and Anthony Clark Blackburn (Tracy Renee Blackburn). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Amanda Cari Blackburn (Stewart Michael Ussery), Anthony Clark Blackburn, Jr. (Sydney Cheyenne Webb), Jackson Anthony DiSario, and Payton Renee DiSario, as well as his adored great-grandchildren, Avery Connor Blackburn and Jackson Stewart Ussery. Their lives are a living tribute to the love and values he instilled.
An avid outdoorsman, Leon had a profound love for travel and adventure. He frequently ventured into the great outdoors, embracing activities like camping, water skiing, snow skiing, caving, and scuba diving. His passion for exploring nature and seeking new experiences was a significant part of who he was.
A veteran of the United States Army, Leon discovered his lifelong passion for computer programming during his service. He went on to have a successful 35+ year career with Delta Air Lines, where he made significant contributions until his retirement.
A man of faith, Leon was a valued member of McDonough First United Methodist Church. To celebrate his life, a service will be held on Saturday, January 27th, at McDonough First United Methodist Church, 151 Macon St, McDonough, GA 30253. Visitation begins at noon, followed by the service at 1 pm. In accordance with his wishes, Leon will be cremated.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to McDonough First United Methodist Church, honoring Leon's commitment to his faith and community.
Leon's memory will be eternally cherished as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, patriot, outdoorsman, and a man deeply rooted in his faith. His impact on our lives remains profound and enduring.
