Marcia Swanson, 72, passed away peacefully on August 3rd, 2025. A lifelong champion of others, Marcia lived with purpose, an unshakable sense of right and wrong, an unwavering spirit of faith and compassion and had a heart dedicated to helping others find their voice and strength.
Her home was always full of warmth, love, and a sense of humor that could cut through any nonsense.
Marcia always believed that two of the most important choices a person would make was believing in Jesus Christ and education. She never taught us that education was a tool to be better than others but to make you more empathetic and to help us see the amazing world God had made.
A dedicated school counselor by profession, Marcia touched the lives of countless students with her wisdom, honesty, and unwavering support. She was known for her sharp wit, matter-of-fact style, and deep compassion, a combination that earned her both respect and lasting affection.
While her kindness touched many, her profound love for animals was also a defining part of her. You might have even adopted a pet or two, especially if she knew you did not have a house pet. She dedicated countless hours working with the Humane Society in Henry County, where her passion for animal welfare was legendary. For Marcia, the term "love" was an understatement for what her "puppies" and all animals meant to her. She found joy and purpose in caring for those who couldn't speak for themselves.
Most importantly Marcia was humble. Even with all her accolades, network of friends and life experiences she never wanted to be celebrated. She always wanted the spotlight on others. She wanted to see others shine and receive praise. She didn’t want to be in the picture she wanted to take the picture (even if she cut your head off sometimes). She lived her life putting everyone first.
Marcia is survived by her daughters Susanna Duren and Annemarie Swanson, her cherished grandchildren Logan Swanson and Carmen Duren. And many friends and families that she has touched over the years. She has made the world better by her acts of blind faith.
