It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Randall Dwight Akin Jr., lovingly known as Randy, who left us on August 2nd, 2025, at the age of 56. Randy’s warmth, kindness, and gentle nature will be missed. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, on August 24th, 1968, Randy was incredibly proud to be Randall Dwight Akin Jr, after his devoted father. He always hoped to follow in his father’s footsteps of being a firefighter, always wanting to serve others, just like his dad. Randy loved his sports. He was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, evident by his collections of key chains, pictures, and hats. Playing Uno was one of his favorite past times.
Randy was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at a young age and met every day with courage and perseverance. He was often described as “one TOUGH cookie”. His warm heart, sense of humor, and gentle spirit were constant.
He is preceded in death his devoted mother Sherry Akin. He is survived by his father, Randall Akin; his brother, Scott Akin; his sisters, Cathy Dobbs and Cindy Greenlun.
A memorial service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held at Haisten Funerals & Cremations on Wednesday, August 6th, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Tunnels and Towers.
