Mr. Sammy R. Piper, age 88, of McDonough, GA passed away October 3, 2017. Mr. Piper was born in Covington, GA the son of the late Fanny Lou Smith Piper and Aubrey Chester Piper. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Eunice Rosser; a brother, Julian Piper and a daughter, Rebecca Wheeler. Mr. Piper enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his tractor, farming, gardening, riding his bicycle, and sitting in his swing listening to the ball games. He served his country in the U S Coast Guard. Mr. Piper was a member of McDonough Baptist Tabernacle. Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Ethel Hooten Piper of McDonough; daughter, Wanda Hail and husband Willie of McDonough; grandchildren, Scarlett Simmons, Andy Wheeler, Myra Higgins, and Eric Chase; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Piper Allums of Covington and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1:00PM – 2:00PM prior to the service at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery.
