Sara Elizabeth Hargett O’Neal, a beacon of love and strength, peacefully departed from this world at her home in McDonough, Georgia on Sunday, November 26, 2023. She embodied devotion as a cherished wife, nurturing mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved great-grandmother. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond family, evident in her talents as a detail-oriented planner, an exceptional cook, and a hostess whose warmth welcomed all who crossed her threshold.
Born on May 31, 1943, near Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Vyron and Louise Hargett, Sara was the youngest of three children, a position she embraced with grace and tenacity.
Professionally, Sara excelled as a world-class executive assistant, dedicating her talents to various sectors, including real estate developers, county government administration, and the Henry County (Georgia) Development Authority. Her mastery extended to her home, where her steadfastness and spirited demeanor crafted a haven of love and guidance. Her innate sense of order blended seamlessly with her loving yet firm approach, nurturing a household that flourished under her care.
As life unfolded, Sara found joy in exploring distant corners of the world, journeying to places like Seattle, San Francisco, Sedona, and even Kosovo alongside her beloved husband, Jim. Yet, her true testament lay in cultivating the strength of her family. For years, she orchestrated joyous family gatherings, turning holidays and birthdays into cherished moments around the dinner table.
Sara leaves behind a beautiful tapestry woven with love and strength, survived by her devoted son Russell Camp and his wife Becky of McDonough, GA; son Joel Camp and his wife Karen of Jackson, GA; son Todd O’Neal and wife Raimonda of Oak Ridge, TN; and daughter Shannon O’Neal Kenton (Frank) of Bronson, FL. Her memory is carried on by grandsons Taylor Camp (Kim) of Jonesboro, GA; Garrett Camp (Jordan) of Locust Grove, GA; Jordan Phillip Camp (Mary Claire) of Atlanta; granddaughter Rianna O’Neal; and grandson Aiden O’Neal, both of Knoxville, TN. She also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Stephen, Amelia, Thomas, and Jacob Camp, who is her birthday buddy.
As Sara transitions to her eternal reward, she reunites with her beloved husband of 38 years, Jim O’Neal, who departed just five months prior, alongside her sister Mary Hargett Phillips, brother Ray Hargett, and her cherished parents.
A memorial service to honor Sara's beautiful life will be held in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253. Family and friends will gather for visitation at 1:00 pm, followed by the memorial service at 2:00 pm.
