

Dr. Sheila Kay Wilkerson Binkney, age 67, of McDonough, Georgia passed away January 9, 2015, from complications of declining health. Sheila was born and raised in Henry County. After 30 years experience in public education, she retired from the Henry County School System where she served as the principal of Locust Grove Elementary, Hampton Elementary, and she was the first principal of Oakland Elementary School. Sheila was a member of the Henry County Retired Teachers Association and also the Georgia Retired Educators. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed planning, organizing her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, shopping, keeping up with current events and was well known for her giving heart in supporting numerous charities. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas “Bill” Wilkerson, who was a former Exec. VP of First National Bank and later Sun Trust; and her mother, Minnie Jewel Conkle Wilkerson, who was the owner of Conkle 5 & 10 on the McDonough Square. Survivors are her husband, Dr. Richard Binkney of McDonough, retired former educator/administrator Henry County Schools and current educator/administrator of the Tift College of Education; children, Kent and Fallon Binkney of McDonough. The funeral service for Sheila will be Wednesday, January 14, 2015 – 2:00 PM in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with David Krogh and Rev. Eddie Tomlinson officiating.
