

Harvey lived in Locust Grove, GA for the past 30 years.
Harvey was born June 29, 1946, in Thomaston Georgia. His parents were James Harvey McKinley and Lillie Johns McKinley of Thomaston, GA. He was preceded in death by a son James Norman McKinley, and sisters Katherine Kirland and Helen Bynam and brother Douglas McKinley.
He is survived by his wife Barbara McKinley of 30 years, Locust Grove, GA, son Daniel McKinley (Tracey) of Thomaston, stepchildren Dennis Haring (Jeri), Doug Haring (Kelly), Michelle Vincent (Gary), and six grandchildren, nieces Joy Burnette and Donna Storm. He had several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He attended E Thomaston Grammer School and R.E. Lee High School.
Harvey worked in the Thomason Mills. He went to the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science, returning to Thomaston in 1967 to work with Trice Funeral Home.
He received his EMT training while working at the funeral home. In 1975 he worked with the First Upson County Ambulance Service assisting with its startup and as supervisor for 5 years. He attended classes with Clayton County Fire department and Spalding Area Tech for his Paramedic training.
Harvey worked for 13 years at Southern Regional Medical Center in the cardiology department primarily in the Cardiac Cath Lab. During this time, he received his Certification as an Invasive Cardiac Specialist.
He worked for 15 years at Crawford W. Long Hospital (Emory Midtown) in the Cardiac Diagnostic and Interventional Catheterization lab until his retirement. During this time, he received his Registry as a Registered Cardiac Invasive Technologist.
He held credentials as a Licensed Funeral Director and was previously licensed as a Georgia Paramedic and Registered Cardiac Invasive Technologist. He was an EMT instructor, BLS and ALS instructor trainer during his working career. He maintained his Funeral Director’s license after retirement. Harvey was selected to appear in the Who’s Who in Georgia in 1973. Harvey retired in 2008 and did contract Funeral service work. Harvey enjoyed playing golf, working around the house and his pets. He attended Rock Springs Church, Milner, GA. He will be remembered as a patient, meticulous, hard-working person always looking for another adventure, mostly misunderstood due to his quiet self.
A visitation for Harvey will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Haisten Funerals & Cremations, 1745 Zack Hinton Parkway, McDonough, GA 30253. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. A committal service will follow at Locust Grove City Cemetery, Highway 42, Locust Grove, GA 30248.
