

Bessie (Volcik) Curry Bradshaw, 93, formerly of Waco, Smithville and Austin passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, January 12th at Marrs-Jones Funeral Home in Smithville with Rev. James Shugart officiating. Interment will follow in Oakhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, on Sunday, January 11th at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor.
Mrs. Bradshaw was born on July 16, 1921 in Smithville, Texas to Paul and Mary (Palla) Volcik. She was a switchboard operator at Camp Swift during WW II. She was active in the Austin Czech Historical Society and retired from the City of Austin. While in Smithville she was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Eastern Star and the Garden Club. Mrs. Bradshaw was also a member of the McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage Society in West. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband; Graydon Curry, second husband; Arthur “Pete” Bradshaw, brothers; Walter, Joe, and Leon Volcik and sisters; Billie Williams, Anne Henson and Edna Foytik.
Survivors include her daughter; Pat Blackshear and her husband, Wayne of McGregor, step son; Arthur Bradshaw of Smithville, brother; Gene Volcik and his wife, Vi, grandchildren; Nathan Blackshear and his wife, Renee and Laura Warren and her husband, Patrick, great grandchildren; Lindsay, Jennifer, Erin, Amy, Katelynn and Jason and numerous nieces and nephews.
