Charlotte Grace Rood, age 98, of Woodway / Waco Texas, previously from Florida and Michigan, made her transition on Saturday, January 24, 2026. She was on hospice for 5 months and had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
Charlotte was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 16, 1927 to parents Raymond and Margaret (Knerr) Herbst. She had 3 siblings: Vivian, Kenneth (Carol) and Delbert (Jean).
Char worked as a switchboard operator at General Electric until she married her sweetheart Leo J. Rood on July 26, 1947. They had 4 children; JoAnn (John Rogowski), Janet (J.R. Price), Daniel (Doreen) and Kathleen (Gregory Boyce). She is predeceased by Leo, JoAnn and Dan and all of her siblings.
Char was a hard-working housewife who kept an immaculately clean house and yard. She enjoyed watching her children play and had “that” neighborhood home where everyone gathered.
Char was known for her pleasant, helpful, caring and fun disposition. She was very active, enjoyed fitness and was an excellent bowler and golfer. She also liked bike riding and beachball volleyball but could be counted on to put her foot into the beachball!
Char was a very talented and accomplished crafter, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and knitting being her favorites. She volunteered her time and talents with the Red Cross, church activities and mission crafter projects.
Char loved having fun playing cards and board games and continued to beat everyone up until the end!
Charlotte was also an animal lover, although she often wouldn’t admit it. She had numerous dogs; Boots, Scottie, Lady, Laddie and Lucy. She had a few birds and didn’t mind living with a few cats too!
Left to cherish her are daughters Janet and Kathie, Sons-in-law John, J.R. and Greg and daughter-in-law Doreen. Her grandchildren Kimberly, Rodney, Jason (Jennifer), Christopher(Alicia), Kelly (Jon Collins), Benjamin (Kenya), Sonny (Michelle) and Katie.
