

Mr. Clifton Ray Shirley, Sr., age 87, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 in McGregor. Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor with Pastor David Echols of Moody Church of Christ officiating and interment to follow in Gholson Cemetery.
Mr. Shirley was born August 6, 1928 in Cordova, Alabama to Clifton Dewitt and Ada Ataberry Shirley. He was a longtime resident of McGregor. Mr. Shirley married Mildred Juanita Lightfoot on Feb. 14, 1973 in Waco. He worked for 36 years for General Tire as a bead winder and retired in 1987. He enjoyed fishing on his boat, hunting and looking for golf balls with Jake the waterdog.
Mr. Shirley is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dewitt, J.C. and Hubert.
Survivors include wife, Mildred Shirley of McGregor; son, Clifton Ray Shirley, Jr. and wife Jo of Coppell, son, Roy Shirley and wife, Edelia of Waco, daughter, Myra Adams and husband, David of Waco and son, James Ronald Batey and wife, Elaine of Lorena; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol, Floree, Fern, Marie and Raven.
