

Frances Bennett Caufield of McGregor died Friday night, July 1, 2011, at the age of 98. Graveside services and interment will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Harris Creek Cemetery under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor with Dr. Jimmie Johnson officiating.
Mrs. Caufield was born on February 1, 1913, on the Bennett farm, northwest of McGregor. She was the second child and only daughter of John Foster and Lillie Mae (Elliott) Bennett. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1930. She attended Baylor University, where she was a Baylor Beauty and May Queen. She was a founding member of the Green Alligators and graduated with a degree in English and education in 1935.
She taught school in Aquilla and Chilton before returning to McGregor to teach. She married Cavitt Caufield in McGregor on December 24, 1938. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McGregor where she taught in the Children’s Department and was member of the Ruth Class. She will be remembered as a gentle, gracious Southern lady.
Mrs. Caufield was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Cavitt Caufield, and by her brothers Hiram Elliott Bennett and John Foster Bennett, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Deedie, and husband, Phillip Hering, of Waco; two granddaughters who lovingly called her “Habe”, Laura Caufield Hering of Houston and Caroline Caufield Hering of Dallas; five nieces and three nephews.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to her long time care giver, Ada Rogers, and to the staff at Westview Manor who lovingly cared for her for so many years.
Following the service, there will be refreshments and an opportunity to visit with the family.
