Josephine Atkins Yates

Josephine Yates of the South Bosque community, died late Friday night, April 16, 2010, at the age of 91. Graveside services and interment will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at Harris Creek Cemetery with Rev. Roger West officiating, under the direction of Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. There will not be a formal visitation, however viewing will be from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. Monday at Cole Funeral Home.

Mrs. Yates was born March 10, 1919, in Rosebud, Texas, the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Mabel Mae (Irwin) Atkins. She was a 1937 graduate of Waco High School. In 1963, she continued her education at Hillcrest Hospital’s Nursing Program in Waco where she was in the seventh class. For several years she was employed by Dr. James Colgin in Waco as LVN. After devoting twenty years to the nursing profession, she retired.

As a small child, she moved to McGregor and married Robert William Yates December 6, 1941, in South Bosque. After fifty-four years of marriage, he preceded her in death February 26, 1996. She was a member of Harris Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed reading and working in her yard.

Also preceding her in death was a son, Gary Bob Yates; two sisters Margaret Padgett, Doris Lyles; three brothers, Will Atkins, Sam Atkins and Benny Atkins.

Survivors include five nieces and five nephews.
