

Louie Lavone Walter of McGregor died Monday morning, November 15, 2010, at the age of 81. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 19, 2010, at First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Madison St., McGregor, with Rev. Lianne Turner officiating. Private inurnment will be in Crawford Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor.
Mr. Walter was born August 30, 1929, in McLennan County, the son of the late James Frederick and Ollie Alletha (Mitchell) Walter and attended school in Speegleville. On May 25, 1952, he married Ima Walker in Chilton. In 1965, they moved to McGregor from Golinda where they have made their home. During his working years, he was employed by Tom Kirk Ford in McGregor and Bird-Kultgen Ford in Waco as a mechanic. He later was employed by Central Freight Lines as a truck driver. In 1995, he retired after twenty-seven years of service.
Mr. Walter was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Friendship Builders Class and served as its treasurer, was a member of the Methodist Men and served as an usher. He served his country in the United States Army. A fifty-five year mason, he held a dual membership in the James V. Callen Da-Lite Lodge #1422 in Dallas and Fidelis Lodge #1127 in Waco. He was a thirty second degree mason, being a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Austin Orient of Texas. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, car racing, working in his vegetable garden and mowing lawns.
Also preceding him in death was a sister, Jimia Lee Ruff.
Survivors include, his wife, Ima of fifty-eight years; three sons, Mitchel Walter and wife Tammy of Riverside, Jeff Walter and fiancé Carolyn Redmon of McGregor, Mark Walter of Gatesville; two daughters, Patricia Abbe and husband Mark of Arlington, Dana Jones and husband Michael of McGregor; three brothers, Arvis Walter and wife Jackie of Robinson, Cecil Walter and wife Dorothy and Billy Joe Walter and wife Shirley both of South Bosque; three sisters, Louise White of Lorena, Mary Leard and husband Tom of Terrell, Virginia Dean Mudge and husband David of Texas City; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
