

Wayne Holt of McGregor died Thursday afternoon, December 19, 2013, at the age of 80. A memorial visitation will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Cole Funeral Home, 1113 West Fifth Street, McGregor. A memorial service wwill be 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 23, 2013, at Cole Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Thompson officiating. Private inurnment will be in Crawford Cemetery.
Mr. Holt was born September 28, 1933, in Crawford, Texas, the son of the late Floyd Cecil and Lillie Mae (Brashier) Holt. He was a 1951 graduate of Crawford High School where he played basketball and football. From 1954 to 1956 he served his country in the United States Army. On March 8, 1957, he married Chesterlene Bennett in McGregor and moved to McGregor. For thirty-five years General Tire employed him. He retired as a foreman in 1985. Through the years he has several part-time jobs to include Amsler Funeral Home, Lee Funeral Home, Ray Stewart Farms and more recently Brookshire Brothers Grocery Store.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching John Wayne movies. In the early 1970’s, he was instrumental in the organization of the McGregor Bass Club.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Odell Holt, a sister, Shirley Taylor and a grand daughter, Crystal Edwards.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Chesterlene Holt; two sons, Billy Wayne Holt and wife Carrie of Robinson, Brian Craig Holt and wife Georgene of Grandview; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Mahoney of Waco, Darlene Morin and husband J.D. of Belton; two brothers, Edward Holt of Fort Worth, Bobby Holt and wife Linda of Waco; a sister Mildred Burkett and husband James of Crawford; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A special thanks is extended to his grandson, Marcus Mahoney for the excellent care shown to his grandfather and grandmother.
