

Bill was survived by his loving wife, Bette of 65 years; his wonderful children, Sherie Williams (John), Chuck Asbury, and Christy Kemper (Michael); and seven grandchildren, Amanda, Brandi, Hannah, Colby, Zach, William, and Kathryn; sisters, Jackie Kerschner and Lynn Melvin; sister-in-law, Helen Asbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Joseph, Thomas, and Howard Asbury and his sisters Glenda Ottis, Sue Tucker, Cathy Appell.
Born in Kanawha County, Frogs Creek, West Virginia on October 29, 1936. Graduated from Nitro High School while serving in West Virginia National Guard. Served three years in the U S Army in the Military Police with sixteen months in Korea. He began his career in law enforcement in the Army, then with the Newport News Police Department from December 1, 1960 until October 1962. He joined the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of State Police in October 1962, retired as Master Trooper with 39 years of service. Bill often said, "I am a West Virginian by birth, Virginian by choice". He was a former member of Cool Spring Baptist Church for 28 years and a member of Fellowship Community Church from the very first Sunday for 15 years where he was a beloved father figure for many and loved sharing his faith with others.
A graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd., Hanover, VA 23069 with a a time of fellowship to follow at 1pm at Fellowship Community Church, 8505 Bell Creek Road, Suite K, Mechanicsville, VA 23116.
