Mrs Collins was my 5th grade teacher at Glen Allen Elementary back in the 80s. She was my absolute favorite teacher and it felt so good having someone who looked like me in a place where most kids and teachers did not. I knew she loved me and cared about me and I always thought about her over the years. I became a teacher, and eventually a Middle School Principal and I know she had a lot to do with my becoming an educator. Thank you Mrs. Collins❤️

I was just thinking about my amazing 5th grade teacher. I love you Mrs. Collins. I am a 46 year old mother of two young men ages 23 and 20 and you made such an impression on my life. Thank you for being an agent to me at 11 years old. I will always love you.

I just looked up Mrs. Collins & saw that she had gone on to glory almost 2 years ago.  Mrs. Collins was/is my absolute, hands down favorite teacher ever!!!  I met one of her daughters and sons in the 5th grade at Glen Allen Elementary School.  I knew  that she loved God as I did.  You could see it in her.  She loved us and I felt her love.  She stood up for me to another teacher when I chose to exercise my religious freedom & not do a dance at our bi-centennial program. (Back then, 6th grade was elementary school.)  To the family:  Your Mom touched hearts and lives more than you know.  

I shared a lesson I learned from Mrs. Collins as a 5th grade student at Glen Allen Elementary in the mid-nineties with my 6th grade daughter the other day.  I wanted to look up Mrs. Collins to thank her for the lesson she taught me and was sad to see she had passed. One day she brought crackers and sardines to share with the class and after giving every kid the opportunity to take one from her she said she was disappointed only 2 people in the class said "thank you." I remember being so ashamed I wasn't one of those two because I had been raised to be grateful. I have always remembered that lesson and tried to teach my kids that even if you don't like something or want it, you need to show appreciation to people. She taught me a great lesson about gratitude that day that I will always remember. Thank you.

Mrs. Collins was my 5th grade teacher at Glen Allen Elementary in the 1980's.   She was stern and wanted your very best self to show up every day. She made such a profound impact in my life. I absolutely loved her. I send sincere condolences to the family. Please know that God will see you through. Mrs. Collins, thank you for being a part of my village and helping to prepare me for the world.

Mrs. Collins was the first person I met on my first day working at Fifth Baptist Child Care Center...she pulled me right under her wing, teaching me the ropes!  I'm grateful I had the chance to meet such a great woman!! I will never forget her!

Pat and I are quite saddened to learn about the home-going of your wife and mother.  We knew very little about her, yet that one time that Ms. Crawley introduced us to her mother, it was easily determined that she was a very caring and sweet lady.  Both of you have our sympathy.  We know that God will take care of you in the coming days to get you and your family through the sorrows.  May God Bless the entire family.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal. Delores Collins touched so many lives with her love, strength and determination. I pray that the Peace of God will be with you and her memory will bring you Joy.

Mrs. Collins was my 5th grade teacher at Glen Allen Elementary school.  She is the reason I am now an educator.  I remember my first year teaching in Henrico County and she came to substitute at my school.  I was estatic that she could see the fruits of her labor.  I'm sure she has left a mark on many.  I pray for comfort and peace for the Collins family.  May God bless you all.

She was not the typical First Lady.  You could not make her sit down and be served.  She wanted to do the serving.  We always went back and forth, jokingly  of course.  I loved her spirit and passion for God's people.  God has you now.  Rest in Power beautiful lady.





To the Collins Family:

I met Mrs. Collins 10  yrs. ago at Great Hope Baptist Church and she made me feel loved from the moment we met. I will surely miss our conversations, her chicken vegetable soup, her smile, her caring  & compassionate personality and most of all her mothering love that she showed my and my grandsons. 

You have my deepest condolences. 

Mrs. Collins  will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.   Her  loving, caring strength was a model for anyone she came across.   Her joy in life was contagious.    Family, you are in our thoughts and hearts.  We grieve with you.
