Ernest Pete Bednar, “Ernie” went home to be with the Lord on Christmas Day 2012. Born on November 6, 1932 to Peter John Bednar and Mary Alice Sochor in Richmond, Ernie attended John Marshall High School and graduated from Richmond Professional Institute. Ernie served his country in the U.S. Navy onboard the USS Corduba during the Korean Conflict. A small business owner for most his life, Ernie was also active in the Baptist Church and was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Richmond. Ernie is survived by his wife, Lillian Lukhard Bednar; his son, Mark Christian Bednar of Richmond; his daughter, Shannon Rene Woods, wife of Rusty Woods, of Hampton; two grandchildren, Victoria and Jacob Bednar; his brother, Richard Alex Bednar; and sister, Judy Moore.
The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., where a funeral service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences at www.woodyfuneralhomeatlee.com.
