

A resident of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Harry was known for his dedication and hard work, qualities that defined his life from an early age.
Harry began working at the age of 12 and continued to do so throughout his life, always ensuring the well-being of his family. His career spanned several decades, starting in 1951 when he worked as an accountant with Export Leaf Tobacco Company until 1993, and continuing with Children's Home Society until 2002.
In addition to his professional life, Harry served his country with distinction as a member of the United States Marine Corps. He was part of the group known as the China Marines, who were sent to China, exemplifying his commitment and service.
Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Mabel Parrish Shelton, his parents, Mary Cannon Shelton and Harry D. Shelton Sr., his sisters, Nell Alspaugh and Margaret Carter, his half-brother, Melvin Shelton, and his granddaughter, Shannon Burgess Burns.
He is survived by his daughters, Betty Rivera, Donna Burgess (Clyde), and Cathy Carter; grandchildren, Jimmy, Allison, Shawn, Amanda, and Danielle; 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Harry was affectionately known to his family as "Brother".
In his personal time, Harry enjoyed playing golf and was passionate about tracing his family's ancestry. He was also a charter member of Chamberlayne Heights Methodist Church, reflecting his commitment to community involvement.
Harry often shared his wisdom through his favorite sayings, "Everyday is a good day" and "Go with the flow, roll with the punches," words that encapsulated his approach to life.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Woody Funeral Home - Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23116. A graveside service will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at Westhampton Memorial Park, 10000 Patterson Ave., Richmond, VA 23227.
Harry Dudley Shelton Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his positive outlook on life.
