

She was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Walter L. Thompson with whom she enjoyed many years of true love, and her brother Joseph Duncan Corley.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia Corley Melton (Harry); three children, Ronald Thompson (Nancy), Kent Thompson (Terri), and Gale Smith (Chip); seven grandchildren, Daniel (Martha), Ross (Kimberley), Andrew, Chesley (Justin), Cort (Ashlan), Kyle (Christina), Jill (Keith); and nine great-grandchildren.
Throughout her long life she was unwavering in love and care for her husband, children, grandchildren and friends, and steadfast and generous in her multi-faceted church work. She was a Master Judge for many flower show competitions and involved with many local garden clubs. Over many years, she crafted wonderful arrangements for family and friends, for weddings, and for the halls of Covenant Woods Retirement Community in Mechanicsville, where she resided for twenty-three years. She found great pleasure in travel, watercolor painting and many forms of physical fitness activities. Her family and her church were at the heart of her life. She and her husband were charter members of Chamberlayne Baptist Church in Richmond and Olney Baptist Church in Maryland. For over twenty years she has been a member of Shalom Baptist Church in Mechanicsville.
A memorial service for a woman who was greatly loved by many and who greatly loved many, will be held on February 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Shalom Baptist Church, Rev. Mark Miller officiating, followed by a gathering of family and friends in the fellowship hall.
