

Laura H. Condon, 48, of Mechanicsville, passed away peacefully at her home, March 21, 2012, after a hard-fought, courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, John F. Hawkins, II. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Mark, and her children, Rachel and Shane. Her children brought such joy and meaning to her life. Laura loved being a mom more than anything she ever did. Also surviving are her mother Alice Hawkins; sisters Barbara Thomas (Mark), Alicia Young (Mike), Joan Pearce; brothers John Hawkins III, Robert Hawkins, Donald Hawkins; and many special nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Laura attended VCU, receiving BS, MS and Post-Graduate certificate in Educational Leadership. She was a school counselor for many years and ended her career as principal of Short Pump Elementary School where she loved working with children and her colleagues. Laura truly enjoyed time with special friends. She felt blessed to have so many loving, caring people in her life. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, adventuresome spirit, and wonderful sense of humor. She touched the lives of everyone she met. Laura fought cancer for more than 10 years. She made every effort to stay strong and enjoy life with family and friends. A special thanks to the staff of VCI for the many years of care and treatment. Laura will be missed but her spirit will be within the hearts of her family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, March 26, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody’s Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville, VA, where a celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, March 27 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Laura to Susan G. Komen of Central VA, 1433 Johnston Willis Dr., Richmond, VA 23235.
