Matthew was born and raised in Mechanicsville, graduating from Atlee High School in 2001.
From a young age, he was fiercely independent and drawn to the outdoors. He excelled at everything he tried, from art to racing BMX bikes to earning his black belt in Tae Kwon Do and learning to both snowboard & ski in the Swiss Alps. He turned his passion into purpose by building his own successful tree service company Woodworks LLC, taking pride in his work and the life he created through determination and faith, displayed by love in action.
Matthew was the beloved son of Cliff and Marianne Wood and brother of Cristalle Marks. Though their lives took them down different paths, his daughter Savannah Wood remained a constant and central source of inspiration and drive, shaping the determination he poured into every day he spent building his life and business. He is also survived by his step-children Haleigh and Christian and their mother Misty Arhart, as well as aunts, uncles nieces and cousins.
Matthew had a strong faith in God; he shared whenever opportunity arose and touched many lives through his fervent faith. He will be remembered for his humor, charisma and kind heart. He had a natural ability to make people laugh and feel at ease. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met and was known for helping others whenever he could. Those who knew and loved him will miss his presence, strength, voice, laughter and spirit. Matthew, until we meet again, just like the license plate on your truck says, we will never give up.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 17th at 1:00 pm at Woody's Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road, with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. A private graveside service for family will follow. Friends and loved ones who wish to celebrate his life and share memories are invited to meet at the Milestone clubhouse at 11030 Milestone Drive from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Turning Point USA at www.tpusa.com.
