On June 22nd, 1974 in San Diego, CA, our beautiful wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend Cynthia Nicole Edsall was born. She was welcomed with open and loving arms to her parents Robert Lopez and Diana Nelson and four adoring siblings. On the morning of December 6th, 2023 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina Cyndi passed away unexpectedly due to complications from diabetes.
In 1978, the family relocated to Southern Oregon where Cyndi grew up in the countryside, first Chiloquin and then Klamath Falls. She was passionate about her horses Whysti and Moonshine and belonged to 4-H. Cyndi graduated from Henley High School in 1991. She was part of the first crew to open the Running Y Resort working in guest relations. Her life's adventure continued when she joined the U.S. Navy.
Before serving two tours of duty in the Afghanistan war and while stationed on Whidbey Island, WA, Cyndi met and married her beloved, Dustin Edsall. Her Afghanistan stories opened our eyes to a different lifestyle and put us on the frontlines of current events. Among other things she once said of her experience, "I've never been so cold (-19) nor so hot (+120) in all of my life!" She chose not to reenlist and in 2009, she and Dustin moved to New Bern, North Carolina which they called home until her passing.
Cyndi loved life and many things. Her ‘girls’ Yoshi and Kali filled her heart with maternal love. As time went on she discovered painting and cycling and in 2014 Cyndi graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in Pharmaceutical Laboratory Technician. Analyzing specimens and recognizing diseases never ceased to fascinate her, another eye opener for the family! She adored her Biking Buddy cycling group and the many places they explored. Always leaning towards the goofy side of life and never missing a ‘Photo Op!!’ which was code for stop and pose. Cyndi was especially lucky to have met Dustin because her only cooking utensil was placing her soup mug in the microwave. Dustin loved cooking for her. Their friends described their relationship like ‘peanut butter and jelly’.
We embrace her husband Dustin with heavy and broken hearts. We reflect on her twinkling eyes and ready laughter, she was anti drama and fondly referred to in our family as ‘Switzerland’. Cyndi is survived by Dustin, her mother Diana and her siblings Jennifer Keck (Keith Massie), Richard Pardy, Pat Pardy (Monica) and Jeff Pardy (Ceisha). She was adored by her nieces and nephews, Nicole and Ian Erickson, Colette and Mikey Davis, Amanda and Jake Sallee, Michelle and Julian Garcia, Dustin and Tyler Pardy, Ethan, JaeceLynne, Jaaron and Emmersyn Pardy. She leaves behind many great nieces and nephews who brought her countless amounts of joy. Cyndi was preceded in death by her father Bob Lopez.
Cynthia will be interred with military honors at Eagle Point National Cemetery on Thursday, December 21st surrounded by her loving family and husband. We are eternally grateful to Dustin for bringing our girl home.
