Randall James Matter passed away suddenly on April 30, 2025, age of 73, at his home in Medford, Oregon.
Randy was born on July 13, 1951, in Alexandria, Virginia, at the Fort Belvoir U.S. Army Hospital. He was the son of Joan Helen Matter (Chevalier), age 22, and Bernard Merle Matter, age 21, who was enlisted in the United States Army at the time. Both of Randy’s parents were originally from Racine, Wisconsin. After his father’s service, the family returned to Racine, where they settled down and raised their family.
Randy began his education at Saint Stanislaus in downtown Racine, where he and his sister Sandra took the city bus to school. After completing the fourth grade, Randy attended St. Lucy’s for the remainder of grade school. He then continued his education at Mitchell Junior High and graduated from Case High School in 1969.
During his high school years, Randy worked at a grocery store called Piggly Wiggly. Later, he took on the role of Manager at his father’s electronics business, Badger Electronics.
In 1978, Randy embarked on an adventure to the West Coast with a close friend. He loved Oregon so much he decided to relocate to Medford, Oregon where in 1984, Randy founded his own electronics business, Valley Industrial Electronics. For 27 years, he provided wholesale distribution of electronic parts and electronic communications equipment, serving the needs of his community and beyond.
In 1991, Randy married the love of his life, Laura Mayer, in a private ceremony at their five-acre, sloped, forested hillside residence. Randy and Laura enjoyed 34 years together playing golf or out boating on Applegate Lake, but mostly just hanging out with each other at home, enjoying home cooked dinners, spending every night together on the deck.
Randy is survived by his wife Laura, sister Sandra (John) Kinard, Pam (Michael) Casciato, Julie (Scott) Richie, Connie (Bo) Layton, and nieces and nephews. Randy is preceded in death by both parents Joan and Bernie Matter, and brother Gregg.
