Rose Marie Mayer was born August 6th 1947 at General Hospital in Los Angeles California to Ursula (Lita) Otero Flores Mayer & Manuel Alberto Mayer. Her father was a singer & played congas for Perez Prado & his orchestra in the 1950's, while her mother sang, danced and played guitar. As an infant, Rose Marie learned to sing before she could speak, from playing a phonograph placed next to her crib. Neighbors & family would gather to watch the singing baby!
She attended West Athens Elementary School, Henry Clay Junior High School, Gardena High School & Harbor College in Torrance, CA. While at Gardena High, she met Allen Ray Greenberg (1947-1987) during the time of his winter of 1965 graduation, before enlisting in the U.S.Air Force. Rose Marie graduated GHS in June of 1965. During the 1960's she sang & played guitar & piano as both a soloist & in bands including mariachis. After Allen's discharge in 1969, he & Rose Marie dated, and were married on December 27th of that year. On November 21st of the following year, they gave birth to one daughter, Linda Marie.
The family of three resided in Torrance & Carson CA, before moving to Spokane WA in 1978, and to the Rogue Valley in 1980. They first lived in Wolf Creek prior to moving to Medford, where for three years operated a pizza parlor called The Original Pepperoni Frizzbee Factory. After closing the restaurant, they took over a coffee bean shop in Ashland called Cuppa Joe Coffee Trader. Following Allen's death from Melanoma on May 19th 1987, Rose Marie & Linda Marie moved to Ashland to continue operations at Cuppa Joe & reduce the number of daily commuting by bus and friend's cars, as Allen was the only driver in the family.
In the meantime, Linda Marie had found her voice & started singing duets with her mother, using the latest technology of karaoke, as well as with local musicians.
Besides her daughter, Linda Marie Greenburg, ( the spelling of their last name was changed for safety reasons.) Rose Marie is survived by one brother; Manuel Alberto Mayer Jr.in Milwaukie OR, three uncles, one aunt & several cousins in California.
Flowers are welcome!
Linda Marie.
