Not only were we cousins, we were pen pals, and best of all Simone was my dear friend.   How many families can honestly say that about their cousin?  Simone and I enjoyed emailing back and forth through the years, emails filled with news from Simone's Medford and news from my Grants Pass.  We'd often vent about politics, grumble about the weather (too hot or too cold), the yucky smoke, we'd share family history, Monarch butterfly stories, local environmental issues, travel stories and updates about our daughters, grandkids and their adventures.   Sadly, my email feels empty now.  But best of all,  I'll never forget all our years of being dear friends.  Goodbye Simone, I Love You.

It is rare to encounter someone who radiates as much genuine warmth and kindness as Simone Coffan did. She was truly one of the sweetest women I have ever had the privilege of knowing, possessing a unique ability to make everyone around her feel seen and valued. Her gentle spirit and constant grace left a lasting mark on all our hearts, and the world feels a little less bright without her presence. She will be deeply, truly missed, but her legacy of kindness will never be forgotten.  I love you, Simone!

I remember this joyful moment being at Edenvale Winery in Medford where I was working at an event.  Music, great wine and dear friends who shared that night with me will always be a great memory.  I love you Simone and Robert!

I am so very sorry to hear of Simone's passing. She was a delightful person whom I have fond memories of.  She made such a huge contribution to our natural world and all its glorious wonders.

Simone and Robert are without a doubt the greatest friends I have met in my entire life; Simone was always a sweet, kind, loving person, she had a comforting, genuine personality that made me feel welcome at their home; They built a place at their home to had me as a guest, and treated me as family, for that and other experiences and times shared, I have always considered a blessing and a wonderful gift having had the honor and privilege of knowing Simone and Robert 🙏  
and honestly it’s hard to find words to describe what a great person o ángel  she was……
          I feel she is still with us, among us; and we always remember her with the greatest Love and respect 🙏

From the first moment I met Simone, she welcomed me with open arms and acceptance. Getting to know her for the brief time we shared was a true privilege. The world has lost a truly incredible soul with her passing. With all of me I wish that our paths had crossed sooner. How I would have loved more deep and meaningful conversations in the garden with her. She and I shared some deeply impactful conversations on the meaning of life, facing one's own mortality and what is left behind when we leave this earth. Simone leaves behind a legacy of warmth and love in her children and grandchildren. But also, one highlighted by fierce passion and true advocacy for nature as well as for those who cannot speak for themselves. Oh, what I would have given to take her pain away and let her stay with us. Losing a Mother, Grandmother and Life Partner like Simone is a pain I can only imagine; because unfortunately not many people are like Simone. I've had few people in my life as good as her. Although good is only the surface of who Simone was. All one must do is look to her children to see just how GOOD she truly was. 

To her family: Greif is a strange and ever-changing thing. It is also a direct representation of love. Treat yourself with kindness. Feel this ALL the way.  I know it will hurt, more than anything. It will hurt for a long time. But each hurt is a part of your soul that was touched by Simone, try not to deny yourself the felling of where she touched. Painful as it may be. I promise it won't always hurt THIS bad.

If you would like to make a donation on her behalf, Simone was one of the co-founders  of the Save The Phoenix Wetlands, a group dedicated to saving and restoring natural wetland and riparian areas in our urban environment, and was also one of the co-founders of Southern Oregon Monarch Advocates.  The Rogue Valley Council of Governments (RVCOG) has set up an account specifically on behalf of these efforts by Simone.  Just make a check out to RVCOG and mention it is for the wetlands or the our western monarchs and it all goes to her cause! Thank you for caring, and for how you each touched Simone in some way!

An outdoor celebration of Simone's wonderful life will be held at their home along the banks of Crooked Creek in Medford on Saturday, May 16, from 3:00- 6:00pm, (with mingling from 3:00-4:00, and speaking and open mike at 4:00).  There will be laughter, and nostalgic tears.  2499 Happy Valley Dr., Medford OR. Limited parking on the streets (carpooling suggested).
